Homemade Dog Treat Recipes

I got into making my own homemade dog treats because my girl, Remi, suffers from allergies. I believe her allergies are most likely environmental, so food may not affect her much at all. Still, my vet recommended keeping her diet simple and consistent to help manage flare-ups when they happen. That’s when I decided to start making dog treats at home. Not only does it give me full control over the ingredients, but my girls absolutely love them. Below are a few simple dog treat recipes that are easy to make and guaranteed to leave your dog wanting more.

Storage tip for the baked treats: if you do not completely dehydrate them, it is best to store in the fridge or freezer — they should be good for approximately 2-4 weeks. If you do not store them in the fridge/freezer, it is best to use them within 1 week before spoilage.

Peanut Butter Banana Dog Treats (3 Ingredients)

These are soft, easy to make, and a huge hit in our house.

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe banana
  • ½ cup natural peanut butter (no xylitol!)
  • 1 cup oat flour (or blended rolled oats)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Mash the banana in a bowl.
  3. Mix in peanut butter until smooth.
  4. Add oat flour and stir until a dough forms.
  5. Roll out and cut into shapes, or scoop small balls.
  6. Bake for 12–15 minutes.
  7. Let cool completely before serving.

Pro Tip: cut up some blueberries and throw them in while mixing ingredients for some extra flavor and nutrients!

The blueberries can make it a little wet and messy to work with, and may even turn your treats purple, but I promise your pups won’t care!

Pumpkin & Oat Dog Treats (Great for Digestion)

Pumpkin is excellent for digestive health and stool regulation.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup pure pumpkin purée (not pumpkin pie filling)
  • 2 eggs
  • 2½ cups rolled oats

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Blend oats into a coarse flour.
  3. Mix all ingredients until combined.
  4. Drop spoonfuls onto a lined baking sheet.
  5. Bake for 20–25 minutes.
  6. Let cool completely.

Pro Tip: boil some carrots, grind them up and throw them in when mixing all ingredients to add some extra nutrients!

I usually add a half cup of peanut butter with this recipe

Sweet Potato Chews (Single Ingredient)

This one couldn’t be easier—and dogs love the chewiness.

Ingredients

  • 1–2 sweet potatoes

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 250°F.
  2. Wash and thinly slice sweet potatoes.
  3. Place slices on a baking sheet.
  4. Bake for 2–3 hours, flipping halfway.
  5. Let cool before serving.

Texture tip:

  • Shorter bake = chewy
  • Longer bake = crunchy

Frozen Yogurt & Blueberry Bites

Perfect for summer or dogs who love a cold treat.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup plain, non-fat Greek yogurt
  • ¼ cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)

Instructions

  1. Mix yogurt and blueberries together.
  2. Spoon into silicone molds or an ice cube tray.
  3. Freeze for at least 2 hours.
  4. Pop out and serve as a refreshing snack.

Why I love these: Great for lick mats, cooling down after walks, and gentle on sensitive tummies.
